“Shibori” from the Shelter series consists of an old Japanese brown-black underkimono and blue-gray linen fabric. The kimono has as a pattern the typical shibori ornament, often reminiscent of a snake skin. This time it’s a quote. It imitates the ancient technique of shibori dyeing. The linen fabric is blue-gray and has a greenish tinge when viewed from certain angles because the warp and weft threads are different.

Kimono deconstructed /Shelter series

“Shelter” is another coat series from the Kimono Deconstructed series.
Each piece is a solitaire and consists of an antique silk Underkimono, smooth, light, shimmering with hand-painted illustrations and with dyed gradients. The sleeves are flared, long and wide. They cover the hands partially or completely. The outside is made of linen, also light but rough and coarse, slightly translucent. It contrasts with the Underkimono. As the name suggests, this type of kimono is originally worn – invisible from the outside – under a heavier kimono. Beauty is hidden.
The idea of “Shelter” takes that on. What is lining, what is visible? Showing the magnificent or a promise? Is it not obvious with the rough shell to protect the layer that is light and ornate.
“Shelter” it is called, also because of the feeling of security. Wrapped, with a lot of space and with lightness.

Was ist Futter, was ist sichtbar?
